ABOUT KEVIN SHAFFER, DipWSET, FWS, IWS, CSWS

Having grown up in a house with an oenophile (father) and a teacher (mother), it is no surprise that Kevin pursued a career in the wine trade and is now a Philly Wine instructor. He graduated from Hobart College, in the heart of the Finger Lakes wine region, with a degree in English. After a brief and failed attempt to become an on-air radio star, Kevin moved into the wine industry. Since 2001, he has worked for distributors and is currently the New Jersey Sales Manager for VOS Selections. Kevin’s passion for wine led him to obtain a WSET Diploma in Wines in 2022 and he is a WSET Certified Educator. Through the Wine Scholar Guild, he is a certified French Wine Scholar, Italian Wine Scholar, and Sherry Wine Specialist. Also, he completed master-level certifications in Alsace, Burgundy, Bordeaux, and Champagne.

One of the benefits of Kevin’s career has been the opportunity to travel and he has had memorable wine adventures in Austria, France, Italy, Spain, and the United States. During his time at Bowler Wine, he visited France regularly to assist in discovering producers for their prestigious portfolio. Still an English major at heart, Kevin enjoys writing about wine and has been published in The Art of Eating Magazine. What does he love to drink? Burgundy is Kevin’s passion, but he will never turn down a glass of Champagne.
